About This Shop
The exact date Nakanotana Inari Shrine was founded is unknown. According to the Chishinshu (a text compiled in 1822, designated an Important Cultural Property of Hiroshima Prefecture in 1966), a passage reads: "This alley was reopened after the previous one was lost to fire in the 8th year of Horeki (1758); there is also a small Inari shrine here, said to be the guardian shrine of a certain mochi maker." This suggests the shrine likely stood in its present location as early as 1758.

Shoichii Inari DaimyojinThe shrine is said to have been established sometime after 1758. Its enshrined deity, Shoichii Inari Daimyojin, is said to be a spirit divided from Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Taisha. During the Koka era (1844-1848), it was counted among the six famous Inari shrines of Hiroshima Castle Town, alongside Enryuji Inari (Tokasan), Inaricho Inari, and Hoshoji Inari.

Shōichii Inari Daimyōjin
Nakanotana Inari Shrine is said to have been established sometime after 1758 (Hōreki 8). Its enshrined deity is said to be Shōichii Inari Daimyōjin, a spirit divided from Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto. Records show that during the Kōka era (1844–1848), it was counted among the six most prominent Inari shrines in the castle town of Hiroshima, alongside Enryūji Inari (Tōkasan), Inarichō Inari, and Hōshōji Inari.
Kyūbi no Kitsune (The Nine-Tailed Fox)
The nine-tailed fox is the divine messenger of Nakanotana Inari Shrine's deity. Long said to be able to transform into a beautiful woman, this fox became the inspiration for Kyūbi no Kitsune, the original character of Nakanotana Shopping Arcade. Ema votive plaques and good-luck straps featuring the character are also available.
